Hi! I’m Zoë.
I’m a jewellery designer & maker based in Wellington, New Zealand. I’m a very happy mum to our daughter Freddie (and our lively springer spaniel Tiggy!) and I spend any spare moment working on my small business which I love.
I've always had an urge to make things. After a few years learning from experienced jewellers in Wellington, I attended the London Jewellery School, graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Silversmithing in 2015. These days most of my time is spent working on commissioned engagement and wedding rings for my clients, or making something new from their existing jewellery. I particularly enjoy using recycled materials, so I love melting down gold to use again and recycling stones into a new design!
While I began by learning the traditional methods of jewellery making and honing my bench skills early on, in recent years I have loved exploring the possibilities and advantages of new technologies such as CAD drawn design, allowing my clients to fully envision their bespoke piece before creation. By blending modern and traditional processes there are endless opportunities as to what I can design and create for my clients. Whether I’m designing a custom new piece, bringing to life a client's idea, or redesigning pre-loved jewellery, I love working directly with clients to make something unique just for them.
Alongside my bespoke service, I also design small collections of one-of-a-kind rings for my online store, while frequently adding new pieces to my ready to wear and made to order collections.
When I design and make each piece I always assume it will be worn all the time. For this reason my jewellery is made exclusively with solid metals and the most durable stones, a mix of white diamonds and coloured sapphires. I want my jewellery to be timeless, elegant and easy to wear but with a little spark, like a fun coloured stone, or an alternative setting. The pieces you will find online are all exactly that, effortless rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets that I’ve made to be worn every day, for any occasion.
At the centre of Zoë Porter Jewellery is a focus on sustainability and ethical practices. Environmentally friendly processes are a must wherever possible in my workshop and I source raw materials from local suppliers I know and trust. I like to use recycled metals, and I use only ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones from suppliers that assure they are conflict-free. Read more about my ethical workshop processes here.
I'd love to hear from you if you have any questions, design queries or just to have a chat!
